Here is a very cool backpacker video made by Ryan Commons who attempted to accomplish a 211 mile 7 day trek from Whitney Portal located in the Eastern Sierra Mountains to Yosemite Valley. Solo hiking is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced. Ryan’s journey demonstrates an amazing athletic achievement coupled with his courage and tenacity. 
Ryan’s solo trip is an wonderful collection of some of the sights and thoughts he had during his epic trek. Ryan Commons did this well crafted video just this last fall capturing much of his trip to share with the world. The results are in the video to the right, which is very well made and captures the essence of the adventure beautifully and well worth the scenery alone. If you have ever considered hiking the trail, you’ll definitely want to give it a look. Even if you have not considered it, Ryan’s video is inspiring and worth watching.
Though we have never connected the route like Ryan did, but we have experienced some solar backpacking sections of the route from both ends. Mt Whitney remains one of our favorite spots in the world. Difficult access and significant challenges at altitude but the views and solitude navigating away from the crowds is something to experience.
