Magnum MS2012 inverters are the brains of any solar system for Marine, RV or emergency battery backup generator. A Magnum MS2012 inverter will change the direct current (DC) power produced by the solar panels, or stored energy in batteries, and convert it into alternating current (AC) electricity that home, RV or Marine owners can use to power T.V.s, stereos, plasma screens, and other sensitive electronics without the distortion or electrical lines you sometimes get with modified sine wave inverters. Portable solar kits for camping are increasing in availability, but what about practicality? Can portable solar kits for camping be put to use readily? Are they portable enough? Are they durable enough?

Many people spend most of their RV camping time in RV camping spaces with full hook-ups. They plan trips according to where the next RV camp is, and reserve a full hook-up space for the end of each day. For those folks, RV solar practicality would be a move up because they would not be so tied to the grid. [click to continue…]

This morning we lost power at about 4am. We had our first snow storm here in Iowa during the overnight hours and I think this one caught us all a little off guard. Our solar emergency backup power generator came on just like it was suppose to and kept things running. We had been having rain all day yesterday, and we knew that some snow was a possibility, but we didn’t expect this. The forecast was one of those iffy ones where things can go either way just depending on how the atmosphere shapes up. It seems that when this is the case, most of the time the weather goes to the better, but unfortunately this time it went to the worse. [click to continue…]

U.S. Reps. Dave Reichert, R-Washington, and Earl Blumenauer, D-Oregon, members of the tax-writing House Committee on Ways and Means, have introduced the American Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit Extension Act, which would extend the tax incentive for the production of solar, wind power, geothermal power, hydropower and some other forms of renewable energy through 2016. Changing Your Life With Portable Solar

by Kerri S. on October 27, 2011

in portable solar

She sits near a picnic table close to the lake, click-clicking away at the keyboard of her very portable laptop connected to a very portable solar panel. The words flow from her mind down through her fingertips. She stops for a moment, looking up. She watches a pair of blue jays fly from tree to tree. For a moment she wishes she had brought her camera, but then decides its better she didn’t. Not all of life has to be experienced through the lens of a camera. She feels the warm breeze on her face, the sun reflecting off the portable solar panel and on what a lovely day it is for late October. As she watches, several leaves fall to the ground; the last hangers-on of the season finally giving up the ghost. She knows she should get back to work, but she can’t help her thoughts from turning to how her life has turned out. [click to continue…]

Ultra lite backpackers know that less pack weight equals more distance using less energy. My job this weekend was to put the Goal Zero portable solar panel to the test backpacking the Sierra Mountains. For this hike, my girlfriend and I chose the Goal Zero Nomad 7 portable solar panel. The Nomad 7, developed by Goal Zero, consists of two mono-crystalline solar panels that provide a DC output of 12 volts from the DC charging port or 5V from the USB connector. [click to continue…]

There is a long overdue ground swell movement called #OccupyWallStreet taking off that started in New York City that is quickly spreading throughout the country.  The independence the solar industry provides is one small part of a larger argument over nothing less than the future of America. Theodore Roosevelt (Republican)  once famously said over 100 years ago “Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul this unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of statesmanship.” [click to continue…]
